I persevered for a number of years with a blender that gave adequate results to say the least. How Long Should You Blend and at What Speed?

When you press an option on the touchpad the machine will speed up and then slow down and speed up and slow down depending on the option you picked. And it will shut off when it is done. So for instance, say you are making a smoothie – you add all of your ingredients, put the lid on and press the Smoothie button. The machine will start up slowly to blend the main ingredients and then speed up at the end to blend the ice. You don’t have to know when to turn it off – the blender is designed to know just when the job is done and it will switch off at the right moment. However, if you do need to turn it off then you can.
It has up to 10 speed settings with Speed Up and Speed Down keys to take you through the different speed settings.

How Easy is it to Clean?
Blendtec have created a touch pad system so that means you no longer have the problem of cleaning around knobs and buttons to try and dig out bits of food. Just wipe down the blender to clean the base and you can hand wash the jar or simply pop it into your dishwasher.
Note: Blendtec recommend placing the jar in the top rack of your dishwasher. Personally I wouldn’t put this in the dishwasher at all; it’s easy to wash up by hand.

Blendtec Noise Levels
Some readers have found that this blender can generate a bit of noise. Others have said that the noise level is fairly consistent with most other blender brands. I for one have never known a blender to be quiet. This blender generates quite a bit of power so you would have to expect a bit of noise.
One suggestion is to place a mouse pad under the blender. This helps to absorb the noise level.
Warranty
This Blendtec Total Blender comes with a 3 year limited warranty. Like most warranties that means you are covered for any defects in material and workmanship. Blendtec may either replace the defective item or repair it. Just remember to keep your proof of purchase if required.
Setting up the Blender
One thing I really like is that the jar just fits easily into the base. There is no twisting and turning to get it into the right position. This is something that I found frustrating with other blenders I have owned, I seem to spend ages just trying to line up the container with the base.
Make Bread from Scratch
This is such an amazing machine. If you want to make bread from scratch you can with this blender. You can even go so far as to grind the whole wheat into flour if you want. Then you simply need to add water and yeast and pulse about 20 times, then open and scrape down the sides, then pulse another 20 times until it forms a ball and you are ready to shape the dough and pop it in the oven.

Why is the Jar Square?
Blendtec claim that this “creates a better vortex which allows food to mix in the jar and more thoroughly blend the ingredients”. If you’ve ever seen the blenders in those juice bars, invariably they will be square so if the professionals use them then there is good reason for it.
The Blades Aren’t Sharp
Another unique aspect of Blendtec blenders compared to other blenders on the market is the blade. If you notice other blenders, the blade is usually quite sharp and you have to be very careful that you don’t slice your fingers when cleaning. The Blendtec blade is not sharp – in fact it is almost blunt.
So how do they get away with such a dull blade? Their reasoning is that it’s not how sharp the blade is but the speed of the blade. This is why they are streets ahead of the rest of the blenders on the market today. The 1500 watt power motor provides amazing speeds to break up foods quickly and easily.
How Much Should You Pay for the Blendtec Total Home Blender?
The list price for this blender is around $599 but you shouldn’t have to pay anywhere near that amount. The price of Blendtec Total Blenders tends to stay fairly static so you aren’t going to see this one on sale all that often. Amazon generally have the best price at around the $399 mark. It may seem pricey for a blender but remember that when you buy a Blendtec Blender you are buying the absolute ultimate in blenders. It blends just about anything…and believe me, you won’t be disappointed in the quality or the results.
