panasonic-nose-hair-trimmerI remember as a child, sitting on the kitchen table looking at the long grey hairs protruding from my grandfather’s ears and nostrils. I would pull at the ear hairs and boy were they tough. The nose hairs I left him to his own devices to deal with.

As men age the hair in their ears and nose often becomes more prominent and unsightly. Maybe it’s nature’s way of compensating for hair loss from the head.

Before taking action to remove the unwanted hair just be aware it does have a purpose in that it acts as a barrier to keep dirt from entering your nose and ears. Do do not pluck the hair, you only want to trim it back not remove it altogether.

Myth:
Ear and nose hair will not grow back faster or thicker if it is trimmed.

The modern man can deal with natures problem hair reshuffle from his head to his ears and nose, with a nose and ear trimmer. These are great little gadgets that allow you to trim the nose hair without the risks involved with using scissors. After all, one slip and you could end up with a nasty scar which looks worse than the hair.

Make sure you undertake this task in a well lit area and using one of those magnifying mirrors that women use when applying make-up or attacking blackheads and pimples is a good idea.

There are two types of ear and nose trimmer that work in different ways. Some have a rotating blade that spins in one continuous direction and others have an oscillating blade that rotates from left to right.

nose-trimmerThis nose and ear hair trimmer was selected as the Best Nose Hair Trimmer by the Hammacher Schlemmer Institute after extensive testing of trimming ability, comfort, design and features, and ease of use.

Another feature is that this trimmer has an integrated vacuum system that collects hair as it cuts, and it has two hypoallergenic blades angled in such a way that provides an improved cutting performance and gives a better, faster trim without plucking or pulling.

The ergonomically designed shaft is larger at the base, ensuring a confident grip, and the trimmer head can be water-rinsed.

Easy to use with a one-button operation, the trimmer comes with a velvet travel case, and a mirrored cap. Requires one AA battery

scooba-the-robotic-floor-washerWe still haven’t come down from the high of going to the US a couple of weeks ago to attend the Affiliate Summit,  in Miami before heading to Cape Canaveral, Disney World and New York, so at the moment the last thing either of us feels like doing is housework.

Now that’s where this little beauty comes in handy.

This is the Scooba,  an autonomous robot that efficiently prepares, wash, and scrubs tile, linoleum, or sealed hardwood floors. And the beauty of  the Scooba is that it does it all  without any human intervention.

You simply add the cleanin solution s per the manufacturers instructions, to  Scooba the Robotic Floor Washer and it will clean the floor of a medium sized kitchen in about an hour.

A light lets you know when the dust bin is full and needs to be emptied.

Scooba will methodically clean a standard sized kitchen floor using one tank of  solution, in as ittle as one hour.

As the Scooba passes over flooring, it picks up loose dirt and sprays solution, while a rotary scrubber gently cleans.

The robot is compact enough to reach under cabinet kick boards and most furniture, and at the touch of a button, it moves around the room avoiding table legs, chair legs etc because of the  built in patented AWARE sensor technology that redirects the robot when it encounters an object.

Scooba comes with 8 oz. of cleaning solution, which approximately four tanks full. Also included is a built-in rechargeable battery and  an AC adapter.

The unit is only available from Hammacher Schlemmer and is definitely well worth checking out.

In 2006 we went on a trip to Hong Kong and China, and while we were in Hong Kong Paula and I each brought an XDA lls O2, or personalised hand held combination phone and computer.

Well being technologically challenged, I left my O2 sitting neatly on its stand where it could be continually charged with its lights just blinking at me. Paula of course mastered her O2 in a matter of moments and has been using it continuously since she got it.

Well this weekend we were exhibiting at the Reed Gift and Jewellery fair at the Melbourne Exhibition Center. And I decided that enough is enough and I was going to master the darned O2.

I brought a new sim card (which it turns out was part of my problem) so that I could access the internet, and it worked a treat. So my once neglected hand held device has become a part of my everyday life and I don’t know how I existed without it.

The O2 can be used to take video and photos, it records and plays back, has a note pad facility, alarm clock, phone and wireless internet connection. You can set the time for where you are based and a second time for another destination, when you are traveling. And it has games.

I fully recommend everyone to get one of these devices it is just fantastic. Now all I have to do is master my ipod and MP3 player and I will be fully automated.

The Egyptian Book of The DeadToday we went to see the exhibition of Ancient Egyptian Artifacts from the Louvre.

The Canberra Art Gallery was packed and it has been reported that there are record crowds of Australians lining up to see this excellent exhibition.

It is absolutely amazing how the fine intricate work on wood and papyrus has stood up to the passage of time. Considering that the items pre-date the coming of Christ.

One item of particular interest is the black diorite sarcophagus of Tanethep from the Ptolemaic period, 2nd century BCE ( Before Common Era, and this is another story). The lid of the sarcophagus is inscribed with passages taken from the book of the dead.

The inside of the lid is engraved with a naked representation of Nut, the goddess of the sky. The figure of the goddess is stretched out above the corpse. Nut is the celestial goddess. The base of the sarcophagus is engraved with the figure of the goddess of the West who represents the dead.

Placing Tanethep in the sarcophagus between the two goddess was to ensure her eternal rebirth.

The ancient Egyptians made sure their Pharohs had everything they needed to see them through in the afterlife. There were so many rituals to ensure that everything went just right.

When we came out of the exhibition I thought that a great gift idea it would be for someone who loves art and discovery – a years membership to the local museum or art gallery.

This is one exhibition you won’t want to miss. Check out the dates in the following locations:
