Unlike other fish, Siamese fighting fish do not require a lot of water. These fish are originally from Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and parts of China, where they are found in shallow ponds, rice paddies and slow moving streams. More important is the water temperature, Siamese Fighters are from the tropics so they require warm water, so to keep your fighting fish in top condition you need to keep the temperature above  75°. Any temperature lower than this and your fish will become lethargic.

Another thing to consider is the Ph level of the water.  This is the measure of whether the water is acid or alkaline.  The ideal Ph for your Betta fish is around 7.1 although they can tolerate moderate variations. Make sure you check the Ph level of the water regularly.
